Decadence® Sparkling Sapphires False Indigo

Size

False indigos (Baptisias) are known for their striking royal blue flower spikes and fall interest. Decadence Sparkling Sapphires False Indigo takes interest to a new level, but in a compact form. Its violet-blue flowers rise above blue-green foliage and bloom spring through summer. By late summer, small black fruit pods appear and the leaves remain green, making this False Indigo shine as other plants begin to drop their leaves. And since it is more compact than some shrubs, it is the perfect spring-through-fall plant for containers or urban landscapes. Decadence Sparkling Sapphires False Indigo grows to a height and width of 30 to 36 inches. Its blooms and smooth, bluish leaves are pretty enough for the plant to stand on its own in a landscape. Plant several in a group for a near field of pea-like blue blossoms. Cut the fresh flower stalks or dried pods for flower arrangements. Place your Sparkling Sapphires False Indigo in full or part sun in zones 4 through for 9; give it a little more shade in those warmer zones. Decadence Sparkling Sapphires False Indigo Care Your Decadence Sparkling Sapphires False Indigo can grow in nearly any soil and can handle periods of drought. Just give the plant more regular watering in its first year and if you place it in a container. Water your plant with drips or soakers so the water goes below the plant. Baptisias are native to North America, so the hybrids are easy-care plants. You don't need to deadhead your false indigo. You also don't need to worry about replacing it; the plants typically live 25 years. Decadence Sparkling Sapphires False Indigo Spacing Plant this shrub in the middle of garden beds, cottage gardens, or as a mass planting. It tolerates salt and can grow near sidewalks that ice up. Decadence Sparkling Sapphires False Indigo attracts bees and is a perfect thriller plant for a large container or highly visible spot in your yard. Space these in the ground at least 2.5 feet apart, center on center.
