As its name implies, the stunningly beautiful March Till Frost Magnolia Tree flowers from March until the first frost of the fall. In early spring, this Magnolia develops purple flower buds that open to pinkish-purple, tulip-shaped blooms with white insides. March Till Frost Magnolia is a recent cultivar that has been specifically bred to repeat bloom after its main flush of flowers in spring. Growing to around 20 feet tall, this Magnolia is a wonderful specimen for any garden. With its upright habit and relatively small form, the March Till Frost Magnolia is perfectly matched to growing in urban and rural gardens alike. Bred in the U.S., this Magnolia is suitable for growing in USDA zones 5 to 7. Often grown as a single specimen, this magnolia looks equally magnificent when grown on its own or at the back of a border. As with other Magnolias, March Till Frost is generally considered deer resistant. March Till Frost Magnolia Care The March Till Frost Magnolia thrives in either full sun or partial shade in a sheltered spot. This magnolia prefers fertile and well-drained but moist soil that is neutral to slightly acidic. Regular watering is required for the first few years and thereafter during dry or hot spells. A slow-release fertilizer for acid-loving shrubs and trees is advisable to help this tree become established. Even though slow-growing, this tree can reach a height and spread of 20 feet and should be planted away from overhangs and structures. Pruning is not usually necessary. However, any broken or dead branches can be removed as required. To help conserve moisture and suppress any weeds, a layer of organic mulch can be applied around the base of the trunk in early spring. March Till Frost Magnolia Spacing With a mature size of around 20 feet, the March Till Frost Magnolia should be planted with ample space so its blooms can be appreciated. As a deciduous tree, underplanting with spring flowering bulbs can produce a stunning display as winter comes to an end.
