Dark green clumps of grass-like leaves makes Mondo Grass, Ophiopogon japonicus, an excellent evergreen groundcover or edging plant. Small spikes of lilac-colored flowers appear in summer. These are evergreen in most parts of the country and provide a low-maintenance groundcover option. Mondo grass is also great for foundational plantings to add green color to any landscape. This plant is also known as Monkey Grass and is resistant to weeds and diseases. There is also dwarf mondo grass if you are looking for something smaller, which grows around 6 tall.
