Winterthur Witherod Viburnum

Size

Winterthur Witherod Viburnum is a large shrub that is easy to maintain and provides a lot of visual interest in a landscape. Large spring flowers are white and have a sweet fragrance. By late summer, the flowers are replaced by berries that are initially a light pink before transitioning into a dark blueish black. The flowers and berries are offset by elliptic glossy green foliage that puts on a dazzling display in the fall and turns shades of maroon and dark purple. This deciduous shrub has a dense, rounded form, making it a natural choice for a privacy hedge. Butterflies enjoy the flowers, and birds are drawn to the berries and will seek refuge in the hiding spots created by the dense foliage. Winterthur Witherod Viburnum is deer resistant and perfect for woodland plantings. This plant is native to North America, and once it settles in, it thrives with little care. Winterthur Witherod Viburnum is drought tolerant once established, but water during a dry period supports continued growth. Winterthur Witherod Viburnum Care Winterthur Witherod Viburnum needs at least 6 hours of sunlight per day, so a spot that receives full sun is best. This plant is not demanding and can live in various conditions, but prefers moist to wet, well-drained soil. Newly planted Viburnum needs regular watering, and established plants only need water during a dry spell. Fertilize plants each spring using a balanced plant food to support abundant growth. Prune Winterthur Witherod Viburnum in the early summer, after the flowers fade. Trimming at the end of the bloom cycle may result in fewer berries, but it will not impact next years flowers. Winterthur Witherod Viburnum Spacing Winterthur Witherod Viburnum stands 7 to 8 feet tall and 5 to 6 feet wide. Space plants 5 to 6 feet apart when creating a continuous planting for a hedge or border.
